A "toolbox" Approach to Evaluation of Injury Risk in Occupational Settings

چکیده

There are many possible means of determining job exposure ranging from job Classifications through to self reports of physical exposure to measures of muscle activations and estimated spinal loads.We suggest a fruitful approach is to develop a framework which allows one to combine instruments to take advantage of the best features of each instrument. We suggest that using a common metric allows a flexible, "toolbox" approach to selection of measurement methods in occupational settings: no matter which instrument is used the results can be integrated to provide an overall picture of injury risk. We present an approach to the measurement of exposure for low back pain using one promising metric, spinal compression, measured in Newtons and give an example of its application.
